April/May Newsletter
2008
Hello Club members;
Another month has come and gone and I must apologize for not getting rolling sooner. I have endured more colds and flu this winter and am now just getting my motivation back. I think we all have endured more than our share and with the longer days, shedding hair and warmer temps, maybe now we can all breathe a sigh of relief and get outside and move!!
I have been brushing and brushing. The first show of the season for Cheney Appaloosas is May 16-18 in Skowhegan. NO I have not been on Ollie but hey, what does it take to sit still and pretend to move??? As for Q?? He leads but beyond that, what would he and I know about each other. The May show is a learning experience. It’s where Ollie and I met show ring. Time to get out the show clothes and see which ones might fit. Pick out the warmest and the coolest coz you never know what May temps will be like. Last year Sabrina went with me and it snowed and sleeted on our way down. Didn’t get much better either.
The Pot Luck and Auction is slated for April 26 at the Lions Club in Caribou, where we hold our meetings. If anyone has any items to donate or is willing to get donations, please let Paula Demerchant know. You can email her at dmrchnt@maine.rr.com Or the website at pineandspurs@pwless.net This would be a great help for knowing who has what to offer. You can look for details on the website. The whole evening will begin around 5PM. Come a bit early and help set up or just visit. Remember, there will be clean up along with set up.
There will be a short meeting before the auction too. So this will replace the regular meeting that would have been April 20.
Many things were discussed at our last meeting. There will be two clean up weekends planned. The weather has not been very helpful or cooperative. So the first clean up will be May 10 and 11 and the second will be May 17 and 18. If you can’t come all those days, please try to come to one day. Bring a hammer and anything else you think might be helpful in the ground work line. We have stalls to repair, and all sorts of things to make sure are safe. There will hopefully be a chance to get the cement pad down for the storage building and if that is there, building the building will be a key event.
Sabrina has secured the Pine and Spurs shows for PAC. The Paint Alternative Competition. This allows people with Registered paints to join a program through the Paint Club and accumulate points. The classes will be regular ones that Pine and Spurs has to offer. If you have questions you can contact Sabrina Hardwick for more information through the website or at hardwickpainthorses@yahoo.com
I will be needing some help the day of the shows to help register and keep points while I show. That was the only stipulation to my taking the Show Chair. My co-chair, Sabrina will also be in the show ring. If you have time to help Bob in the booth please let me know. I will have everything set up but need someone to take show day registrations, changes to classes, add ons, and keep points tallied. I will train anyone!! It isn’t too hard once you know what’s happening. I really need your help. And it can be more than one person.
Okay, so here we go. I will be getting the show programs and class lists out soon. The first show is just around the corner. Ribbons are here. Also, Cheney Appaloosas will be sponsoring DAY END awards and the classes and divisions to be announced at a later date. I just haven’t had time to pull that together.
Also, Lucy and Steve Richard have donated a large sum of money for a perpetual trophy in Memory of Dan Davenport. This trophy is to be given to the High Point Western Adult rider. This will also be listed in the class list. Many thanks to Steve and Lucy and all the other people who love and miss Dan.
Hope to see everyone at the Auction!!
